The Israeli government security office gave a green light at dawn on Friday (8) to a military plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to occupy the city of Gaza in northern Enclave.
After about ten hours of meeting, the Israeli government issued a statement exposing the Netanyahu plan, which includes the occupation of the city of Gaza, without clarifying what will happen to the rest of the Enclave, although the prime minister declared his intention to extend the operation to the entire track before starting the debate session with the cabinet.
“Israeli Defense Forces (FDI) are preparing to take control of the city of Gaza, while ensuring the provision of humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside the combat zones,” the statement details.
The government also reported that the cabinet changed “by majority vote” five principles to end the war: disarming Hamas, the return of all living or dead hostages, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, Israeli security control in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of an “alternative civil administration” to the slope or the Palestine authority, which currently rules in parts of the West Bank.
Speaking to the television network Fox News Prior to the cabinet meeting, Netanyahu stated that his goal was to completely occupy Gaza, but did not intend to maintain it or rule it, but to maintain a “security perimeter” and surrender it to the “Arab forces that govern it” without threatening Israel and without Hamas.
According to the statement, the gathering of an “alternative plan” was discarded for being considered unable to “reach the defeat of Hamas or to ensure the return of hostages.” Without more official statements, the Israeli press reports that this plan would have come from the Israeli Army Chief Staff, Eyal Zamir, who had already confronted Netanyahu to express his rejection of the occupation of the entire track.
Palestinian militias still maintain 50 captives, of which only about 20 would be alive, according to Israel.
