Governing deputies ask for suspension of the mandate of opponents after confusion in the plenary of the House

by Marcelo Moreira

Deputies of the ruling base filed a request to the Board of Directors of the House to punish PL parliamentarians who would have obstructed the chair of the president of the house, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), during a session in the plenary.

In the document, PT, PSB and PSOL point to supposed breakdown of decorum from Julia Zanatta, Marcel Van Hatten, Marcos Pollon, Paulo Bilynsky and Zé Trovão. The group calls for the suspension of the terms for six months.

The confusion occurred when Hugo Motta tried to resume control of the session. According to recorded images, Marcos Pollon was sitting in the chair of the president and resisted to get up even after Motta’s arrival. Van Hatten, who was next door, did not leave the seat either. Julia Zanatta participated holding her four -month -old daughter in her arms. Already Zé Trovão would have obstructed Motta’s passage with his leg, making it difficult to access the table.

The Board of Directors said it is analyzing the images and should also apply punishments to those involved.

In the wake of the impasse, the opposition sought to soften the climate with the president of the Senate, David Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP). Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES), who even signed at the plenary table, admitted to exaggerating.

Alcolumbre, in turn, stressed that there is no possibility to guide requests for impeachment against ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), noting that the issue is not only numerical but political.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, asked the Supreme Court to establish clear parameters for the interpretation of the new rule on privileged forum, with the aim of avoiding what it has classified as a “investigative setback” and ensuring legal certainty.

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) also manifested itself. In a letter, the entity stated that democracy requires containment, prudence and strict respect for legality, warning against judicial decisions that impose restrictions before the final judgment. The OAB defended a pact for national pacification and criticized the occupation of the tables in the legislature.
