The Government of France has announced that it suspended a Palestinian host program that escape the war between the terrorist group Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.
According to BBC, Macron Government Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said this suspension will be maintained while local authorities investigate the case of a 25-year-old Palestinian student who arrived in France in July and was accused of publishing and sharing anti-Semitic posts on social networks.
Barrot stated that French and Israel authorities have performed security checks that did not detect these “unacceptable and worrying comments” and that the Palestinians who have arrived in France through the program will be “subject to a new verification”.
The student’s name and the content of the publications were not disclosed. The student received a scholarship at Sciences-Po Lille University in northern France, but had not yet started attending classes. Now your registration has been canceled and the young woman will be deported.
“France does not have to welcome foreign students who defend terrorism, crimes against humanity and anti -Semitism. Whether from Gaza or anywhere else, foreign students who make or transmit such statements have no place in our country. Neither in our territory,” the Minister of Higher Education and France research, Philippe Baptiste, wrote.
“Within the government, we will do what is necessary to ensure that the case of the Palestinian student of Sciences-Po Lille, who released extremely serious comments on social networks, be treated with the maximum firmness. I have already submitted the case to the Public Prosecution Service, pursuant to article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure,” he added.
More than 500 people have left Gaza towards France through the program since the beginning of the war in October 2023.
