The Ukrainian government investigates the murder of Andriy Parubiy, former president of Parliament, in the city of LVIV, in the west of the country, on Saturday (30). The politician was walking along a sidewalk when he was surprised and shot by the back by the shooter, who was disguised as a delivery man. The suspect fled an electric bike shortly after the crime, as reported by the prosecution.
According to the head of the LVIV Military Administration, Parubiy died before the medical team arrived at the scene. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said authorities are still looking for the killer. Through social networks, Zelensky classified the action as “horrendous murder,” and gave condolences to the victim’s relatives.
Andriy Parubiy became famous in 2014 for commanding protests in Kiev, capital of the country, which led to the fall of the then pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych. He survived an attempted murder with a grenade in the same year. Purubiy was 56 years old and chaired Congress between 2016 and 2019. He also held the position of head of the Ukraine National Security Council.
The country’s Attorney General said that a special operation called “Siren” was triggered to investigate the murder. The case was mourned by the Ukrainian parliamentarian Iyna Garashenko, who called the death of “terrorism.” The former president of the country, Petro Poroshenko, said Andriy Parubiy was “shot dead by monsters in LVIV.”
