Since last Friday (8), a new forest fire has been spreading rapidly in the Los Angeles region of California. About 15,000 residents had to leave their homes after the flames fold in size in less than 24 hours.
The fire, named Canyon Fire, began on Thursday afternoon in the border region between the counties of Ventura and Los Angeles. In less than 24 hours, the flames grew rapidly from 12 to almost 2,200 hectares to Friday night.
On Saturday morning, authorities reported that about 28% of the fire had been controlled. With the advancement of combat, the mandatory evacuation orders were demoted to precautionary alerts.
California was already facing a series of forest fires earlier this year, which caused major damage to the region and reflected internationally by the number of victims and the severity of the situation.
The efforts to contain the advancement of the flames have not yet had an effect, and the fire advances more and more. The fire follows without control. In 5 days, the fire destroyed about 83,000 acres.
The climatic conditions of the region facilitate the fire spread due to strong winds, intense heat and low humidity.
This is already considered California’s second largest forest fire in 2025. The affected area approaches 400 square kilometers. The first largest fire in the region was in January, where 202 hectares were hit, throwing a cloud of smoke that reached 11, 6 square kilometers.
