The Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) expressed, on Wednesday (13), support to the Federal Government plan to mitigate the impacts of the tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian products. In an official statement, the entity stated that the initiative represents a commitment to the defense of national productive sectors.
According to FIESP, measures aimed at preserving jobs, diversification of markets and guaranteeing fair conditions of international trade are fundamental to protect Brazilian industry. “Measures to preserve jobs, diversify markets and ensure fair conditions of international trade are important and are committed to defending national productive sectors,” the note says.
The entity stressed that it will continue to contribute proposals and actions that strengthen the resilience of the productive sector and promote the sustainable growth of the Brazilian economy. He also said he will maintain dialogue with the US private sector in search of solutions that reduce the damage generated by the tariff.
In the text, FIESP also said it will continue to work to minimize the effects of tariffs in both countries, reinforcing the historical business relationship that, over decades, has resulted in partnerships relevant to economic development and the well-being of populations in Brazil and the United States.
The Federal Government plan provides for a R $ 30 billion package in extraordinary credit to support exporters affected by up to 50% tariffs applied by Washington. The amount will be out of the spending ceiling and will be made possible by provisional measure.
North American tariffs are part of a package of actions that affect strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy. Even with the exclusion of almost 700 tax products, the expectation of entrepreneurs and experts is of significant impacts on economic activity, especially since the United States is the second largest commercial partner in Brazil.
