American Senator John Cornnyn of the Republican Party announced on Thursday that FBI director Kash Patel accepted the parliamentarian’s request that the US Federal Police will help locate state opposition legislators who left the state to boycott a vote.
“I am proud to announce that director Kash Patel approved my request to assist the state and local authorities in locating the Texas Chamber Fugitive Democrats,” Cornyn said in a statement, reported by USA today.
“I thank the president [Donald] Trump and director Patel for supporting and promptly acting in response to my appeal for the federal government to blame these alleged legislators to run away from Texas. We cannot allow these dishonest legislators to escape their constitutional responsibilities, ”added the politician, who represents Texas in the American Senate.
Fifty state legislators of the Democratic Party left Texas last weekend so that there was no quorum in the local legislature to vote on a bill that changes the distribution of Texan electoral districts.
According to the American press, if approved, the new proposal would benefit Republicans, who could get up to five more chairs in the House of United States representatives in the 2026 middle term elections.
The Texas government issued arrest warrants against legislators, but they are not valid outside the state and politicians went to states governed by Democrats, such as New York, Massachusetts and Illinois, whose governors have already promised to “protect them.”
On Wednesday (6), two Texas Chamber Democrats said they were removed from the hotel where they were staying in Illinois after a bomb threat.
