European countries announce military support to Ukraine

Sweden, Denmark and Norway announced on Tuesday (5) that they will give military support to Ukraine. The financing will be intended for weapons produced by the United States. The amount donated by the countries will be $ 500 million (2.7 billion reais).

Last month, US President Donald Trump revealed a new project in partnership with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. The proposal aims to encourage European allies and Canada to acquire US -made weapons, including modern Patriot Air Defense Systems.

“Since the early days of Russia’s large -scale invasion, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have shown unconditional support to Ukraine. Applauded the quick efforts of these allies to advance this initiative,” Rutte said.

This initiative is part of a broader Trump strategy to reinforce the American defense industry while increasing the financial contribution of alliance members to collective security. According to authorities involved, the intention is to strengthen the military capabilities of NATO countries in the face of growing threats, especially in the context of war in Ukraine and growing tension with Russia.

In addition, the measure is seen as a way of pressuring allies to reach investment commitments in defense, established by the alliance itself, while generating economic benefits to the US through the expansion of their military exports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky celebrated the help of countries:

“It is a very solid initiative that will significantly reinforce our ability to protect lives. These measures constitute a new firm base for long -term security throughout Europe. Russia will never make Europe a continent at war.”

Last Monday, the Netherlands announced that they will contribute to $ 580 million (equivalent to 3.1 billion reais) as part of the initiative known as “PURL”-acronym for “Ukraine’s Priority Needs List”. This donation integrates international efforts to meet the most urgent demands of Ukraine.

In March, Sweden had already helped the Ukrainians, donating the total value of about 14 billion Swedish crowns. Of this amount, approximately 9 billion will be destined to the purchase of new military equipment, through processes conducted by the Swedish Administration of Defense Material. Another 5 billion will be donated directly to the Ukrainian Defense Sector.
