TikTok creator Lex (@LexSellsWhips), who according to his bio is a sales representative at Coad Toyota in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, shared an 11-second video on Aug. 26 that perfectly captures the unexpected twists that can happen in automotive sales.

The relatively new creator, who only started posting in late August, describes himself as “Your next favorite sales rep!” in his bio—and this video may support that claim.

The video, set to 21 Savage’s “Redrum,” opens with a young woman in a white blouse and dark slacks sliding a set of car keys across one of the dealership’s sales desk toward Lex. The text overlay reveals her predicament: “My boyfriend said I have to return this.”

Any seasoned salesperson might have an intuitive grasp of what consumer research has long suggested: that people we personally know are the biggest influence on car-buying decisions, and that significant others have a particularly crucial role.
