Commission approves a report that points out Anac’s hesitant performance on VOEPASS

by Marcelo Moreira

The External Commission of the House of Representatives approved on Wednesday (13) the report of Deputy Padovani (União-PR) that points to “at least hesitant” of the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) when overseeing the airline Voepass.

The deputy made some changes in his opinion presented last week and, among them, highlighted evidence of the practice of “cannibalization” (removal of parts from one aircraft for use in another) and the scrapping of the aircraft, such as the use of toothpick to fix the defrost system button.

The rapporteur states that the agency failed not to oversee the company with “the proper rigor” before the accident, especially in the face of complaints about precarious labor and salary conditions.

“It is not believable that this company has reached the situation that led to the cancellation of its air operator certificate only after this occurrence,” he said.

VOEPASS paralyzed activities in June after its operating certificate revoked. Recently, former mechanics reported that problems verified the day before ATR 72-500 would not have received attention due to internal pressures.
