Beijing, August 16, 2025 – China is preparing to publicly present a new, huge, unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) at the upcoming military parade rehearsal.

The images published in Weibon show a torpedo -shaped, huge drone shipped on a platform, reinforcing the physical existence of the system.

So far, the Chinese authorities have not officially named the project and has not disclosed technical details, but experts are already comparing it to Russian Poseidon, also known as a status-6-a long-range nuclear torpedo presented by Vladimir Putin in 2019.

Possible drive and abilities

According to South China Morning Post, Beijing is exploring disposable nuclear -powered underwater systems that can maintain more than 30 knots (about 55 km/h) for up to 200 hours. The reactor would then be allowed to the seabed and the vehicle would continue to operate with batteries, presumably for traditional attacks.

It is still uncertain whether the new Chinese UUV will be designed for transporting nuclear or traditional explosive heads or will serve as a scout and strategic deterrent platform.

Comparisons and mystery

While Russian Poseidon is designed to make thousands of kilometers and attack coastal targets with nuclear explosive heads, it is not clear whether Beijing wants to copy the same ability or develop another type of underwater weapon.

At an nuclear scientist Guo Jian, a Chinese Nuclear Energy Institute, a scientific article stated in a scientific article that there are “significant differences” between the Chinese project and the Poseidon without revealing more details.

The vehicles seen during the preparations for the parade, some of which have been identified as AJX002, confirm that China is moving towards the production of large unmanned underwater vehicles (Xluuv). However, in the absence of official information, the true mission of this new weapon remains a mystery.
