Cambridge Dictionary Adds “Delulu,” “Tradwife,” More Words

by Marcelo Moreira

Prepare to start yapping with some newly official words.

Indeed, the Cambridge Dictionary has added an additional 6,000 words—And many have been made popular thanks to Gen Z and Gen Alpha’s internet influence.

One of the most popular terms to make the list is “delulu,” short for delusional which is defined as, “believing things that are not real or true, usually because you choose to.”

And then, of course, there’s “tradwife,” a shortened word for “traditional wife,” the aesthetic content creators Nara Smith and Ballerina Farms’ Hannah Neeleman are often described as.

The term—which has been rejected by Hannah—has been used to define women’s content that depicts mothers staying home, cooking, cleaning and raising children while their husband’s work, which many believe conforms to “traditional gender roles.”

Kim Kardashian and North West’s favorite phrase “skibidi” has also made the list. The term which ranges in meanings from good to bad, has taken a life of its own after the viral ‘Skibidi Toilet’ YouTube video created by Alexey Gerasimov debuted in 2023.
