The federal government sent to Congress, on Friday night (29), the budget proposal for 2026 with a new estimate for the minimum wage: R $ 1,631. The value represents an increase of R $ 1 compared to the previously provided for in the Budgetary Guidelines Law (LDO).
The correction follows the rule approved at the end of 2024, which limits the readjustment to up to 2.5% above the previous year inflation. As a result, the nominal increase over the estimated minimum wage to 2025 (R $ 1,518) will be 7.28%.
The projection is based on the combination of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), estimated at 4.78% until November 2025, and the growth of 3.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 2024. By the formula, the readjustment could reach 8.18%, but the rule imposes a real appreciation ceiling of 2.5% above inflation.
The final value of the minimum wage to 2026 can still be adjusted. If inflation by November 2025 is higher than expected, the government must send a new estimate to Congress in December.
