The president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Ricardo Alban, evaluated as positive measures announced by the federal government to contain the effects of 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian products. Alban stressed that the demands of the sector were contemplated and that negotiations with the US are open.
“We received positively because it contemplates many of the demands made by industries, federations and sectoral associations and also because it has encompassed two basic concepts: continuing to negotiate as a priority and if new measures are necessary, they will be taken,” said Ricardo Alban
The statements were made during the solemnity of announcement of the provisional measure Brazil sovereign this Wednesday (13), at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia (DF). In CNI’s evaluation, the measures presented will bring “financial relief at a critical time for the cash flow of the affected companies”.
The creation of a special credit line of R $ 30 billion with reduced interest and extended deadlines, the extension of the payment of federal taxes for two months and the reactivation of the Reintegra (Special Regime for Reintegration of Tax Values) were priority proposals presented by the Federal Government Confederation and included in the containment plan.
In addition, the increase in the deadline for affected companies to export their goods that have had inputs benefited by the so -called “drawback” – exemption or suspension of imported items to manufacture export products – also meets industrial sector requirements.
According to Alban, the MP represents a market opening and reflects the effort to maintain dialogue with the United States. “We have to exacerbate as much bilateral and Mercosur agreements as possible, especially with the European Union. We will work very hard so that these measures are overcome as soon as possible,” he added.
CNI has claimed that it will continue to work close to the government to negotiate and mitigate the impacts of tariffs, aiming to preserve the competitiveness of national industry. “We are convinced that the National Congress will deal with due priority the provisional measure to be sent by the government to enable the measures presented,” he said in a statement.
