▶️Context: Unlike today, plane kidnappings were not uncommon in the 1970s and 1990s, due to the weaknesses in airport controls and existing regulations. It was possible, for example, to visit the command cabin in flight. There were 747 kidnappings during this period, according to data from Aviation Safety Network. Everything changed from after September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, when planes were kidnapped by terrorists and played against American targets. Since then, the cabins have been protected with bulletproof doors and, during the flight, with restricted access to the crew. Baggage controls were also more strict, as did the identification of passengers.
