No program Last analysis this Tuesday (29), the guests talked about the arrest of federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) in Italy, who decided to surrender to the authorities, according to his defense. The arrest warrant was issued by Alexandre de Moraes on June 7. With this, the immediate execution of the penalty of 10 years in prison was determined, initially in closed regime.
“She acted right because, unfortunately, it is hard to believe in the application of laws here in Brazil. Filipe Martins has been subjected to torture,” political scientist Julia Lucy told Zambelli’s trip to Italy. Still, she recalls that former advisor to Jair Bolsonaro was placed in a lonely and that Cleriston Pereira da Cunha, the “CleSão”, arrested for alleged participation in the acts of January 8, died in prison. “There is a risk of real death,” she concludes in relation to Brazilian arrests.
Zambelli has double citizenship and for this reason took refuge in Italy. The decision on its extradition will therefore be up to the Italian authorities, which will analyze whether the crime can be proven as a political nature, which would exempt it from extradition, according to an agreement between Brazil and Italy.
The case, thus, brought to light Cesare Battisti, an Italian terrorist who had extradition denied by Lula, on the last day of his second term in 2010. “It is different from Battisti’s case. Zambelli has citizenship in Italy and there is this agreement between the countries of not extradite citizens because of political crime.
“If she can prove that she had no real defense and contradictory opportunity, she may be able to put herself as a political prey and remain in Italian territory,” says Lucy. The commentator points out that the decision about the loss of parliamentary mandate will be up to the House of Representatives.
What is behind Trump’s “tariff”
A few days from the entry into force of 50% surcharge on Brazilian products, imposed by Donald Trump, Brazilian entrepreneurs and workers already suffer the impacts of the measure. American importers suspended import contracts and industries from different areas were required to paralyze activities, dismiss employees and impose forced collective vacations.
For economist José Pio Martins Brazilian exports to the United States represent 2% of Brazilian GDP, which is not enough to cause a widespread recession, but except two specific sectors: fruit and wooden. “Fruit perishes quickly, so it will be thrown away. It could be tragic. And Brazil is a large wood supplier for the United States. The product will make it expensive,” he explains.
In addition to economic reasons, Pio Martins explains that there are geopolitical motivations behind the US president’s fares. “This is to preach the dollar abandonment, the alliance with the BRICS and Lula’s curses to Trump affected a lot,” he says. Still, figures such as foreign policy advisor Celso Amorim, Fernando Haddad and Geraldo Alckmin promoted confusion in negotiation between countries, preventing an effective solution.
