Former United States President Joe Biden made rare comments about current American politics during an event in California on Wednesday (2), not directly mentioning his successor and political opponent, Donald Trump.
One of the Democrat’s most notorious statements, which has given few interviews since the announcement of cancer diagnosis in May, was that his political “legacy” is disappearing.
According to Biden, some of the main “achievements” of his presidency are “changing very quickly” and he is being requested by European leaders to “get involved” on external political issues.
“We strengthen NATO significantly,” said the former president, adding that he is “receiving calls – I will not go into detail, I cannot – from several European leaders asking me to get involved.” Although he made it clear that he is not influencing decisions, Biden said he is “giving advice.”
The White House spoke out about the former president’s comments, stating that former President Joe Biden’s foreign policy made the US “weaker than ever,” while Trump got a historic victory with the promise of countries to invest more in defense.
“Thanks to President Trump, NATO allies have made a historic 5%defense spending promise, Iran’s nuclear abilities were destroyed and our country’s position on the world scene was restored,” said Anna Kelly, White House spokesman.
