Japan, in turn, consolidated the Early Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) early alert system after the 2011 disaster, which killed more than 15,000 people. Currently, the country is able to issue alerts seconds before the most intense shaking and to guide evacuations through radio, TV, sirens and mobile phones with J-Alert. In the most recent episode, almost 2 million people received orders to leave the coastal areas of Hokkaido to Kyushu. Waves of up to 1.3 meters were recorded, but there was no significant damage.
