New York Mayor Eric Adams said on Tuesday (29) that the author of the Fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Manhattan targeted NFL offices, the main US soccer league.
Adams gave details of the crime, in which four people died, including a New York Police Department agent, and said investigators found a note in which the shooter talked about chronic traumatic encephalopathy (etc). It is a brain injury caused by repeated head traumas, diagnosed in high level athletes.
The 27 -year -old man had been a football player in high school, but never even reached university categories, much less NFL.
The mayor added that the shooter died “for an apparent self -inflicted bullet wound.”
“He had a note of him. The note alluded to the fact that he felt he had etc, a brain injury known to those who participate in contact sports. Apparently blamed NFL for his injury,” the mayor told the network CBS.
Gunman would have been wrong to enter the NFL headquarters, points out investigation
According to the preliminary investigation released by the mayor of New York, the man, named Shane Tamura, was heading for NFL headquarters, but was mistaken for elevator and was eventually taken to the floor of the Rudin Management real estate company, “where he committed more shootings and took the lives of more employees.”
In addition to the dead, an NFL employee was seriously injured in the shooting and is hospitalized in a stable condition, according to a message that League Commissioner Roger Goodell has sent to employees.
The NFL asked workers to stay home on Tuesday, and while the site is still analyzed as a crime scene, the organization reinforced the safety of the building and hired therapists to deal with mourning.
The investigators said Tamura traveled by Las Vegas to New York, where she parked her black BMW in a double row in front of the 44 -story building at Park Avenue, between 51 and 52 streets.
The incident began around 6:20 pm (local time, 19h20 Brasilia) when the attacker left the vehicle with a long gun under his arm, entered the lobby of the building and fired at the 36 -year -old police officer and with three years of experience in the corporation, who died at the scene.
He later shot a woman and a security guard after which he climbed as elevator to the 33rd floor and began to shoot as he advanced.
“Then (the aggressor) advanced by a corridor and shot in his chest,” explained New York Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch.
The shooting took place in a skyscraper that also houses the headquarters of companies such as the Blackstone investment giant and the KPMG accounting and financial consulting firm, among others.
This was the 254th mass shooting registered in the United States in 2025, according to data from Gun Violence Archive, which accounts for this type of incident. The organization considers as mass shooting those where the number of dead is above people without including the shooter.
