Variety magazine included Wagner Moura and the Brazilian film “The Secret Agent” among the possible Oscar 2026 nominees.
In the preview published by the magazine, the film appears alongside strong competitors, such as the “UN Simple Accident” of Luxembourg, winner of the Golden Palm at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The list also includes France’s “Nouvelle Vague”; Sirât, from Spain; and the Norwegian “sentimental value”.
Wagner Moura, protagonist of the film, is quoted in the best actor category, along with names such as, Dwayne Johnson (The Smashing Machine), George Clooney (Jay Kelly), Michael B. Jordan (sinners) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia). The magazine highlighted the Wagner Moura award at the Cannes Festival, and director Kleber Mendonça Filho, to justify his choice.
The American magazine is considered very important for the film and entertainment industry, leveraging the campaign of “I’m still here”, starring Fernanda Torres and Selton Melo, and directed by Walter Salles, who beat the Oscar for best international film.
