The model stands out with its innovative combination of an internal combustion engine and nine electric motors powered by batteries. Eight of the engines are used for vertical departure and landing (VTOL), while one electric motor is dedicated to horizontal flight.
The combustion engine acts as a generator under flight and charges the batteries in the air, eliminating the need for charging stops on the ground. This architecture allows Cento to perform several subsequent flights, with all energy taken from the fuel tank.
With a load capacity of up to 45 kg, Cento performs automatic loading and unloading via a specialized cargo compartment. The drone can reach speeds of up to 241 km/h, flights in heights of up to 1,500 meters and cover up to 966 km on one tank.
The initiative emphasizes the US Air Force’s commitment to effective, autonomous solutions for transporting supplies to remote or difficult to access areas, and confirms the US leading role in advanced military logistics technology.
