A video released this week shows the impressive transportation of the HMS Belfast stern block, the third British Royal Navy 26 City class, marking an important advance in the construction of the vessel.

The operation was carried out in the newly opened Janet Harvey Hall, inside the BAE Systems Shipyard in Glasgow.

This milestone represents the first time that a Type 26 class frigate will be entirely assembled under coverage, which will allow greater efficiency in the production schedule, eliminating interruptions caused by adverse weather conditions. The bow section should be transported to the same place in the coming weeks.

Once the hull structure is completed, the ship will undergo additional steps of system assembly and integration. It will then be launched into the sea and transferred via Rio Clyde to the Scotstoun shipyard, also operated by BAE Systems, where it will be subjected to final tests before its official incorporation.

In an official note, Bae Systems described the movement as a “fundamental step” in the program, which seeks to provide Royal Navy the most advanced anti -submarine capacity of war in its history.

The Type 26 program is considered a national strategic project in the UK, involving more than 120 suppliers. Each frigate is expected to work at least 25 years old, with expected operation until the 2060s.

Type’s main systems 26:

  • Sea Cptor Air Defense System
  • 127 mm (5 inch) medium caliber cannon
  • Radar artisan 997
  • State -of -the -art sonar systems
  • Vertical launch system (VLS) compatible with different types of missiles

Designed to operate with flexibility and high lethality in the submarine environment, Type 26 frigates are also adapted to global naval missions, capable of multiple operational profiles. Modular building by blocks and the use of state -of -the -art digital modeling allow greater precision in assembling and risk reduction in the process.

In addition to the United Kingdom, the Type 26 project was also chosen by Australia and Canada as the basis for its own fleet renewal programs, forming a multinational effort that provides for the construction of 29 ships in total between the three countries.
