The video, which is widely shared on social media, shows fighters who contact the ship via VHF radio before they attack, and then explodes explosives placed on the hull.
According to Michael Bodouroglou, owner of STEM Shipping – the company that operates the ship – the Magic Seas iron and fertilizer transported from China to Turkey at the time of the attack. The shipowner stated that the attack lasted approximately four hours and “consisted of gunfire, rocket grenades from boats, as well as drones and anti -stakes”.

To date, sinking the Magic Seas has not been confirmed independently, and representatives of STEM Shipping report that they have not been able to determine the current status of the ship.
The images are reminiscent of an earlier attack on the oil tanker M/T Sounion, where explosives were exploded on the deck, which led to a fire. In that case, the ship was eventually saved after weeks of rescue operations, coordinated by EU-Marine units.

The attack on the Magic Seas is the first attack on a merchant ship in the south of the Red Sea since December 2024.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, all 22 crew members on board are successfully saved by another passing merchant ship. The rescue campaign was coordinated by the European Marine Miss Eunavfor Atalanta and UK Maritime Trade Operations. All crew members arrived safely in Djibouti.
Houthi spokesperson Yahya Sare’e claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that the ship was chosen because it “had violated the spell of ports in occupied Palestine”. Bodouroglou, however, clarified that, although the Magic Seas had previously visited an Israeli port, this trip “had nothing to do with Israel”.
