USA BOICOTA UN Conference on Palestinian State

by Marcelo Moreira

The US State Department issued a statement on Monday (28) criticizing a programmed UN conference to discuss the creation of a Palestinian state.

Folder spokeswoman Tammy Bruce has classified the proposal as an advertising blow that encourages Hamas’s activities. “This is a publicist blow that occurs amid delicate diplomatic efforts to end conflict. Far from promoting peace, the conference will prolong war, encourage Hamas and reward his obstruction, undermining the real efforts to achieve peace,” he said.

Bruce highlighted a statement by Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, last week, about the United Nations meeting. “As Secretary Rubio made it clear, this effort is a slap in the face of the victims of October 7 and a reward for terrorism. He keeps hostages stuck in tunnels. The United States will not participate in this insult, but will continue to lead concrete efforts to end conflicts and achieve permanent peace.”

In the statement, the spokeswoman said the United States will remain focused on diplomacy in the Middle East to try to close the long conflict. “Our focus continues in serious diplomacy rather than staged conferences, designed to make apparent relevance,” he said.

Still, Donald Trump’s government has again criticized France President Emmanuel Macron, one of the UN conference creators, saying that the announcement about recognition of a Palestinian state can be considered a “victory” for Hamas, but does not solve the situation in the Middle East.

“This reflects a pattern of counterproductive gestures that only encourages Hamas, encourages its obstruction at ceasefire and greatly harms our diplomatic efforts to end Gaza’s suffering, free the hostages and lead the entire Middle East toward a brighter and more prosperous future,” he concluded.

United States and Israel boycotted the meeting with dozens of ministers in the UN on Monday, an event organized by France and Saudi Arabia to discuss the recognition of a Palestinian state.

Last week, Trump minimized Macron’s announcement about France’s intention to officially recognize a Palestinian state.

“(Macron) is a different guy. It’s a good face. He’s a team player, basically. But here’s the good news: what he says doesn’t matter. It won’t change anything,” said the White House leader to journalists on Friday (25).

“He made a statement. His statement has no weight. He is very good. I like him, but that statement does not convince me,” the Republican added about it.
