The United States government sanctioned on Wednesday (30) STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes with the Magnisky Law. The decision was published by the US Treasury Foreign Asset Control Office.
The Magnitsky Law was created after the torture and death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in a prison in Russia. He died in 2009 and his death certificate pointed out that he was tortured in prison. Sergei was stuck after unraveling a millionaire corruption scheme in the Russian government.
Law does not provide for judgment
The legislation does not provide for a formal judgment, with the right to defense or the contradictory, a unilateral decision of the US government is enough so that, overnight, the sanctioned is punished with the most varied types of blockages.
Economic sanctions, such as blockade of assets and bank accounts, are imposed by law. It is the so -called “financial death penalty”. More than 250 people and entities have been sanctioned. Among them, judges in China, Iran, and even from the International Criminal Court, punished after issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, an ally of the United States.
