US Supreme Authorizes Trump’s layoffs in education

The Supreme Court of the United States paved the way on Monday (14) for President Donald Trump’s government to take layoffs in the Department of Education.

According to information from the Reuters agency, the Court ruled, by six votes to three, to revoke an order from a lower court that had determined the reinstatement of nearly 1,400 dismissed employees and prevented the government from transferring essential functions of the portfolio to other federal agencies. The case continues to be processed in lower courts.

In March, the Trump administration’s department of education had announced that it intended to reduce the number of folder servers by almost 50% through voluntary layoffs and terminations. The department had about 4.1 thousand employees at the beginning of Trump management.

“We will reduce the staff to promote efficiency and accountability, and ensure that resources are directed to where it matters most-to students, parents and teachers,” the secretary of education, Linda McMahon, said on Monday, according to CNN reports.

In March, Trump signed an executive order to guide McMahon to take all the necessary measures to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and “return the educational authority to states.”
