American deputy María Elvira Salazar came out of former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro on Monday (7) saying that the politician is the target of “activist judges” who try to silence him.
The US Congressman’s statement appears after President Donald Trump’s pronouncement in the Social Truth. He wrote: “Brazil is acting terrible in the treatment given to former President Jair Bolsonaro. I watched, just like the world, as they did nothing but chasing him, day after day, night after night, month after month, year after year! He is not guilty of anything except for fighting for the people.”
Salazar mentioned the Supreme Court Minister (STF), who has already been criticized by her on other occasions in statements on violation of freedom of expression in Brazil.
On Monday, the American deputy told the X that “radical socialists” and “activist judges” are using Brazilian courts to act against former President Jair Bolsonaro. “What is happening in Brazil is a shame. Radical socialists and activist judges like Alexandre de Moraes are using the courts as weapons to silence Jair Bolsonaro because they fear the will of the people. This is not justice,” he said.
Salazar continued: “It is a political attack taken directly from the socialist manual. In a democracy, leaders are chosen at the polls, not removed by judicial tyranny. Take their hands from Bolsonaro!”
Earlier, Trump described the situation faced by the right -wing politician in Brazil as political persecution and compared the case with the trials he faced in the United States.
“I will be closely following Jair Bolsonaro’s witches hunt, his family and thousands of his supporters. The only trial that should be happening is the trial by Brazil’s voters – this is called election. Leave Bolsonaro alone,” he wrote on his social network.
“This has happened to me, ten times, and now our country is the ‘warmest’ in the world! The great people in Brazil will not tolerate what they are doing to their former president,” said the president.
