US company threatens to postpone Embraer purchases

by Marcelo Moreira

The US airline Skywest It has announced that it can postpone the acquisition of dozens of aircraft ordered from Embraer due to the imposition of tariffs on products imported from Brazil by the Government of Donald Trump.

The American company is in a process of buying 74 jets from the Brazilian company by 2032. But, according to CEO Chip Childs, Skywest would not be willing to pay 50% tariff over aircraft deliveries.

“We have a feeling that people are understanding the importance of this for small communities in the United States, the economic impact of this for our country. So, see, we will continue to fight hard to advance the tariff issue,” said the executive director.

The commercial director of SkywestWade Steele, reiterated at the same meeting to present the financial balance of the American company that the possibility of postponing these Embraer deliveries is high.

“If the 50% rate with Brazil is implemented, we plan to work with our main partners and Embraer to postpone delivery until the tariff situation is resolved.”

Embraer announced in June a request from Skywest For delivery of 60 aircraft until 2032. At last week’s meeting, the American company said it has already acquired 14 jets.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump confirmed that tariffs imposed on business partners will take effect on August 1, without new postponements. Brazil faces a 50% rate on products entering the United States, the highest announced by the US President so far.
