The US Air Force adjusts its B-1B Lancer Bomber Power for the use of hypersonic missiles by installing new external pylons designed to wear this type of armament.

The project, which has received a financing application of more than 50 million dollars, is seen as a strategic measure due to possible delays in the delivery of the new stealth bombers B-21 Raider, which will replace the lancers.

According to official documents, there are currently 42 B-1Bs employed, a reduced number after the loss of a device in an accident last year. The goal is to increase this fleet to 44 units in the next tax year.

Boeing has been developing a modular support system (LAM) since 2023 that has already shown to be able to transport loads up to around 2,268 kilograms, with a potential capacity up to 3,400 kg, although the official limit has not yet been set by the Air Force.

The B-1Bs have been used since 2020 in tests with hypersonic weapons, including AGM-158 JASSM rockets and more recently as a platform for the future AGM-183A Arrw, one of the most important projects of American defense. The ARRW is an air-enclosure rocket with a tactical weir engine, designed to reach hypersonic speeds and to strengthen the offensive capacity of the US.
