The Undersecretary of Public Diplomacy of the US State Department, Darren Beattie, commented on after the application of the Magnitsky Law to Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF).
According to the US government official, the announced measure shows that President Donald Trump “takes seriously the censorship and persecution complex” in Brazil, “of which Moraes was the main architect,” says an X publication.
Beattie warned potential advocates of US -related violations to the Brazilian magistrate that they should “take note.”
“Those who have been complicit of Moraes Human Rights violations should take note,” said the Undersecretary, sharing a message from the Secretary of State Department, Marco Rubio, in which he also warned figures who “run over fundamental compatriot rights” on the possibility of sanctions.
Rubio stressed that “Judicial Togas cannot protect them” from the application of sanctions such as those of the magnitsky law.
The US Treasury Foreign Asset Control Office (OFAC) announced on Wednesday the inclusion of Moraes on the list of authorities sanctioned based on Global Magnitsky law.
