Trump says that taking hostages from Hamas’s hands is a priority

by Marcelo Moreira

The White House emphasized on Monday (7) that the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas should accept the “immediately” truce proposal and insisted that the end of the conflict and the return of all hostages home is the priority.

“We need to end this war. We need all hostages to come home. And Hamas has to accept the proposal to achieve this. The President (Donald Trump) wants Hamas to accept this proposal immediately,” Karoline Leavitt spokeswoman said at a press conference.

The statement is made on the same day Trump receives Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a closed-door meeting at the White House.

This meeting also occurs at a time when indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain “without advances” after the end, on Monday, of the second round mediated conversations in the capital of Qatar, Doha, although the dialogue continues at night in a new session, they said to the EFE Agency sources close to the negotiations.

This new round began on Sunday, aiming to reach a ceasefire agreement after the mediators submitted a new proposal to both parties, based, according to sources, in the proposal of the American envoy, Steve Witkoff.

What we know about the proposal of ceasefire

The document stipulates a 60-day temporary ceasefire, the release of hostages maintained by the terrorist group in the Gaza Strip and the opening of terrestrial tickets for the entry of humanitarian aid.

The American spokeswoman declined to comment on details of the agreement “out of respect for ongoing negotiations,” but said Witkoff plans to travel to Doha this week to continue the dialogue.

Dinner between Trump and Netanyahu, according to Leavitt, will address the US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities, which in his opinion was “incredibly successful”, and will also have peace in Gaza, the end of the conflict “and many other matters related to Israel and the United States.”
