United States President Donald Trump intensified the trade war with Canada a day before the end of August 1 for a tariff agreement, saying it would be “very difficult” to reach consensus after the country supported the creation of a Palestinian state.
Trump is expected to impose a 35% rate on all Canadian products not covered by the US-Mixico-Canada trade agreement if both countries do not reach an agreement on time.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said previously that negotiations with Washington were constructive, but could not be completed within the deadline.
Canada is the second largest commercial partner in the US, after Mexico, and the largest buyer of US exports. The country bought $ 349.4 billion in American products last year and exported $ 412.7 billion to the US, according to US Census Bureau data.
