White House Political Strategist Steve Bannon, who acted in Donald Trump’s first management, said the US President is “very boring” with the situation faced by Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. The statement was made to UOL portal This Tuesday (8).
“We have been great supporters of the Bolsonaro movement since we met it in 2017. And I think the demonstration shows that President Trump is totally aware of what is happening,” Bannon told the Brazilian portal.
“He is very boring about it. And I believe there will be severe financial sanctions against Moraes. There are dozens of people working on this, both in the executive and congress, and we will see the result in a few weeks,” he continued, referring to the Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes, who became the target of investigations in the United States in cases of violation of freedom of expression and human rights.
Bannon’s statements appear hours after Florida’s court issued a new subpoena against Moraes in the process filed by Trump Media and Technology, Trump Media, and the video platform Rumble.
On Monday (7), Trump posted a message on Truth Social by criticizing the treatment received by former President Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. The right -wing leader is being sued for attempted coup.
“Brazil is acting terrible in the treatment given to former President Jair Bolsonaro. I noticed, just like the world, as they did nothing but chasing him, day after day, night after night, month after month, year! He is not guilty of anything, except for fighting the people,” wrote the president of the United States.
For Trump, the lawsuit against Bolsonaro “is just an attack on a political opponent,” something he said he was familiar with. “This has happened to me, ten times, and now our country is the ‘warmest’ in the world! The great people in Brazil will not tolerate what they are doing with their former president,” he said on Monday.
Comments on Bolsonaro and the lawsuits to which he responds in Brazil were made hours after Trump threatens to threaten an additional 10% rate on countries aligning themselves with “anti -American policies” promoted by the BRICS bloc, currently formed by 11 countries, including Brazil, Russia and China.
In May, the US government announced the “great possibility” of Moraes being sanctioned due to investigations into human rights violations in Brazil.
