United States President Donald Trump has set a period of 60 days to 17 pharmaceutical companies to ensure the best prices for new medicines or, otherwise, facing “every tool” that the government will mobilize for the benefit of US families.
Trump has sent letters to the directors of these companies, including Eli Lilly and Company, in which they warn them that, from now on, “the only thing” that will accept manufacturers is a commitment that offers US citizens the end of extremely inflated prices and free use of American innovation by European countries and other developed countries. “
Among his demands, according to the letter read by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, are the extent of the prices “of nation more favored to the Medical Medical Plan, the return of additional revenues obtained abroad to patients and American taxpayers, and permission to buy direct buying at the most favored nation”.
Trump published shortly after the 17 letters on his social truth platform, directed at Eli Lilly and Company, Pfizer, Sanofi, Regeneoron Pharmaceuticals, Merck and Company, Emd Serono, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, Genente, Amgen, Astrazeca, New Nordisk, Gilead Sciences, Novartis, Bristol Myers Squibb, Boehringer Ingelheim and Abbvie.
In them, the Republican leader recalled that on May 12 he signed an executive order requesting these companies to reduce drug prices in the country within 30 days.
The goal is to ensure that Americans pay the same prices as other developed nations.
“Currently, brand drugs in the United States are, on average, up to three times more expensive than anywhere else for the same medicines. This unacceptable burden on American working families ends with my government,” the text highlights.
If they refuse the request, according to the letter, the government will take all the measures within their reach “to protect US families from continuous abusive practices in establishing drug prices.”
“Americans require lower drug prices and need them today. Other countries have taken advantage of our innovation for a long time and it’s time to pay what is up to them,” the letter concludes.
