United States President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday (2) the closing of a new trade agreement with Vietnam, including 20% of tariffs on Asian country imports and 40% on Vietnamese commodities via third countries, while granting Washington “total access” to their market without tax collection.
“This agreement will represent a major cooperation between the two countries. The conditions are that Vietnam will pay to the United States a 20% rate on all goods entering our territory,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The new deal will include “the 40% rate on any transhipment,” Trump added, referring to the practice of sending products to the US through a third country to hide his true origin and thus avoid higher taxes.
“In return, Vietnam will do something unheard of: it will grant the United States full access to its commercial markets. In other words, they will open their market to the United States, which means we can sell our products in Vietnam without tariffs,” he added.
The Republican warned that the SUV pickups, “which have such good performance in the United States, will be a magnificent addition to the various product lines of Vietnam.”
It also considered “an authentic pleasure” to treat “personally” during negotiations with the Vietnam Communist Party Secretary General, to Lam, the country’s leading leader.
The new pact with Vietnam is part of the dozens Washington said he was negotiating with his business partners during the so -called “reciprocal tariffs” pause that the US agent placed in force in early April and then suspended until July 9.
The White House said last week that it does not consider this deadline initially established to reach new pacts and thus avoid taxes.
