US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night that his government has closed an agreement with Japan, which will include $ 550 billion in Japanese investments in the United States and 15% tariffs on importing Asian products.
In the Truth Social Network, Trump called the “gigantic” agreement, “perhaps the greatest ever done.”
“Japan will invest, under my orientation, $ 550 billion in the United States, which will receive 90% of the profits. This agreement will create hundreds of thousands of jobs – there has never been anything similar,” the president wrote.
“Perhaps the most important thing is that Japan will open the country to commerce, including cars and trucks, rice and some other agricultural products, among others. Japan will pay reciprocal tariffs to the United States of 15%,” Trump added.
“This is a very exciting moment for the United States of America, especially because we will continue to have a great relationship with Japan,” said the Republican.
The 15% rate represents a reduction of nine percentage points compared to what had been established for Japan on the so -called Liberation Day in April, when Trump announced surcharge on the importation of European Union products and the vast majority of countries and territories in the world.
Earlier, Trump had announced agreements with two other Asian countries. In Truth Social, he said he reached an agreement with the Philippines shortly after receiving the visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whereby exports from this country to the US will have a 19%tariff, a percentage point less than the value that would be applied from August 1.
Trump has also confirmed a trade agreement by which it will charge a 19% tariff of Indonesia products from August, which will include access to “valuable critical minerals” from the Asian country, along with compromises for the purchase of US aircraft and energy.
