United States President Donald Trump announced an extra 10% tariff with all countries that align with what he called “anti -American policies” promoted by BRICS. The statement was made at the closing of the first day of the group, held in Rio de Janeiro.
“Any country that aligns with BRICS anti -American policies will be taxed with an additional 10%rate. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thanks for the attention to this subject!” Wrote Trump.
The BRICS summit, currently made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia, resulted in the release of a joint statement. In the text, countries criticize what they call “proliferation of restrictive actions to trade”, in the sense of tariff barriers and economic sanctions imposed by great global powers.
Although the United States was not directly mentioned in the statement, Trump interpreted the position as a direct attack on US commercial policies.
To date, the president has not specified what would be the measures or positions considered “anti -American” by BRICS.
