US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a 50% rate on all copper imports and signaled that he studies up to 200% for pharmaceuticals if his manufacturers are not settled in the United States.
At a cabinet meeting, Friday since he started his second term on January 20, the Republican leader announced the new copper fare, which follows other similar ones already applied to steel and aluminum, without specifying the details.
Trump threatened pharmaceutical companies in case they do not settle in the country to avoid payment of tariffs.
“We will give them about a year, a year and a half, to come. After that, the rates will be applied if they have to bring pharmaceutical products, medicines and other items. A very high rate of about 200%will be charged,” he said.
The agent criticized previous managements for allowing companies from this sector from the United States. “Everyone left. They went elsewhere because people in this room allowed it to happen. And I don’t allow. People in this room don’t allow it to happen,” Trump told government members during the meeting.
