A group of 30 young Catholics from Taguatinga Sul (DF) had a loss of $ 540,000 after the cancellation of a trip to Rome in Italy, scheduled for July 26. They had saved for almost two years to participate in the Youth Jubilee – an international meeting of the Catholic Church.
A few days of boarding, the tourism company Kairós Viagens and Pilgrimages, from Franca (SP), contacted the group and said it would not complete the service. A representative of the agency claimed that there is no “financial availability to afford the costs of the contract” and gave no time to return the money.
Each young man paid approximately R $ 18,000 for the travel package, which included airline tickets, lodging and religious script. Funds have been collected in the last two years through the sale of cakes, raffles and other events.
“It was a lot of working time. Even with the difficulty we are going through, we must keep hope,” said Matheus Machado. In an interview with BandNews TVthe religious group coordinator said they are looking for alternatives to make the trip possible.
The Youth Jubilee is part of the Holy Year of the Catholic Church, celebrated every 25 years to promote forgiveness and spiritual renewal. This year’s edition was called by Pope Francis in 2023 and will be held in Rome in late July, bringing together young people from all over the world.
