Tarcisio on US tariffs: “competence to negotiate is from the federal government”

by Marcelo Moreira

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, participated in the graduations of the Caminho da Training Program this Saturday (12), in Tatuí. The project offers free professional training courses.

During the event, Tarcisio was asked about the meeting with the US embassy and the impacts of 50% tariffs on the state’s economy. He pointed out that the competence of the negotiations is from the federal government and that Brazilian diplomacy “has always done very well”.

Regarding possible participation in approaching US authorities, the governor said that the role played by the team would be to “nourish the US embassy of more information” and cited business in progress between countries, as well as addressing how negative results would bring about several sectors.

“If you get 30% of the flights from Washington, Ronald Reagan or Laguardia in New York, they are made on Embraer aircraft. We have huge orders from Embraer to the United States, only American Airlines ordered 90 aircraft. Tarifar means, for example, 9 million dollars in each aircraft,” he said.

The issue of agribusiness was also raised, bringing the data that 80% of the orange juice consumed by Americans derive from Sao Paulo. For Tarcísio, it is necessary to show the scenario of the São Paulo economy to influence the future decision making about the percentage of the percentage over Brazil.

Amnesty and STF

The possibility of amnesty as a bargaining chip in the US retreat, raised by the voters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, was another situation brought by the journalists present. In answering, the governor said that the situation is “a point of view” and that at this moment he has to “look at the state of Sao Paulo.”

“There are interests that need to be preserved, interests of our companies, our producers and that’s what we have to put first,” he said.

Regarding an alleged trip to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for the release of Bolsonaro, when questioned by a reporter, he returned questioning if there would be any petition and minimized: “This is a nonsense,” he concluded.

Event

The first ceremony was at 10am, at the Cerquilho Municipal Theater, bringing together students from Cerquilho, Porto Feliz, Tietê, Laranjal Paulista, Cesário Lange and Pereiras. At 15h, Tarcisio participated in the second graduation, in the Praça da Matriz, in Tatuí, with trainees of Tatuí, Araçoiaba da Serra, Salto de Pirapora, Alto Chapel, Alambari, Iperó and Boituva.

The Caminho da Training Program aims to expand employment opportunities through free professional qualification, benefiting residents of various municipalities of São Paulo.
