The Federal Supreme Court (STF) issued on Wednesday (30), an official note in response to the sanctions imposed by the United States government to Minister Alexandre de Moraes. In the statement, the Court reaffirms its independence, defends the legitimacy of ongoing investigations and reinforces that it will continue to comply with the Constitution.
According to the Supreme Court, “the trial of crimes that imply a serious attack on Brazilian democracy is the sole jurisdiction of the country’s justice, in the independent exercise of its constitutional role.” The note cites the criminal action in progress at the Court, presented by the Attorney General’s Office, involving accusations such as an attempted coup and includes a former President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, among the defendants.
The Supreme pointed out that there are consistent evidence of the crimes investigated, including a plan that provided for the murder of public authorities. All decisions made so far, as pointed out in the text, were validated by the court board.
The Court also reaffirmed the commitment to due process and a fair trial for all involved. At the end of the statement, the Supreme Court expressed solidarity with Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the target of the announced sanctions.

1. The trial of crimes that imply a serious attack on Brazilian democracy is the sole jurisdiction of the country’s justice, in the independent exercise of its constitutional role.
