by Marcelo Moreira

Steve Bannon, a political strategist who helped the US President Donald Trump in the campaign of his first term (2017-2021), has been considered by the Supreme Court (STF) as one of the leading articulators who have been undergoing sanctions against court ministers, including Alexandre de Moraes, according to information published by the Brazilian press in recent days.

Although his proximity to Trump is currently a mystery, Bannon follows as one of the movement’s leaders Make America Great Again (Maga), who became the Republican President’s motto in 2016 and his allies.

Days before American Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the revocation of the Moraes and “Allies” visa, which were not nominally cited in the statement, the political strategist had anticipated that Trump was “boring” by the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil and should soon apply sanctions to Brazilian authorities.

Later this month, in comments during an interview with Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and commentator Paulo Figueiredo, Bannon stated that he considers STF minister Alexandre de Moraes “one of the worst figures of the world scenario today.” At the time, he compared the Brazilian magistrate to a “Batman villain”.

Who is Steve Bannon and what is his relationship with Bolsonaro

Steve Bannon is a 71 -year -old political and executive media strategist who was best known for his role in Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential elections.

Although the republican campaign has provided visibility to Bannon, its policy activities were not restricted to the United States. It is considered a spokesman and icon of the global right.

For years, members of the Bolsonaro family have had ties with the political advisor, especially Deputy Eduardo, who participated in a Bannon birthday party in Washington in 2018, when he praised the performance of the American strategist in the fight against cultural Marxism.

The relationship of the American with figures from the Brazilian right emerged at the time when Jair Bolsonaro became a candidate for presidency. Despite this approach, Bannon has always rejected to have provided campaign services to the former president, demonstrating only informal support, he said.

The political strategist is the creator of an initiative called movement, focused on defending conservative values in what Bannon considers a cultural war in the ideological and political fields. In addition, the project emerged as a platform to elect right -wing leaders in the world.

In Europe, he maintained contact with nationalist politicians such as Hungary Viktor Orbán, an ally of Trump; Marine Le Pen, from France; and the vice-minister of Italy, Matteo Salvini.

Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro joined the project in 2018, becoming a central figure of the movement in Latin America. The beginning of acting in the region, according to Bannon, took place with the Eduardo Bolsonaro conference in the United States in November 2018.

“I am very proud to join Steve Bannon as leader of ‘The Movement’ in Brazil, representing Latin American nations. We will work along with him to regain sovereignty taken by the forces of the global elite and expand nationalism to all citizens of Latin America,” said the Brazilian deputy that year.

Since then, Bannon has been appointed as an articulator of right -wing leaders in Brazil with the United States.

Since leaving office in Trump’s presidency, the relationship between the two has cooled, although the former advisor had his influence between congressmen and the Maga movement. Subsequently, they again exchanged compliments.
