Senate CCJ advances the new Electoral Code hearing

by Marcelo Moreira

The Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) postponed next Wednesday (16) the vote of the new Electoral Code. The proposal reinforces the electoral and party legislation in a single standard, with 877 articles.

The postponement was made after hours of discussions without consensus at central points. Among the excerpts that are generating controversy are “quarantine”, when state careers in the state intend to apply in elections, combat misinformation and printed vote.

Senator Marcelo Castro, rapporteur of the text, reported that the proposal represents an institutional advance by unifying seven distinct electoral laws, but there is a need for more time for negotiation. The goal is for the new definitions to be valid from 2026.
