Saab revolutionizes the fire power of SISU GTP armored vehicles with the integration of the Trackfire Ares combat module equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon.
Finland has taken a bold step in making its light -armored vehicles more deadly by suggesting combat modules that are able to overcome ground and air targets, such as drones. Swedish Saab was responsible for integrating the new system, which from a technological point of view raised Sisu GTP.

An outstanding element of the project is the Trackfire Ares module, which contains a 30 × 113 mm M230LF Bushmaster automatic cannon and a 7.62 mm FN core coaxial machine gun. The only 350 kg unit can be mounted on the top of light armored vehicles without threatening their agility. Two -axis stabilization allows accurate shots even while moving.
The main weapon can also use traditional cracks and special projectiles, such as the US XM1211 ammunition, which allows for programming electronic timing. This results in extremely efficient fracture clouds against drones and infantry behind cover.
According to SAAB, the system sets a new standard for remote -controlled combat modules by combining versatility, deaths and air defense capabilities in a compact form. With optical accuracy and rapid reaction, Trackfire Ares is an effective solution to modern threats.
However, analysts also point to some controversial points in the project. The open structure of some mechanisms, designed to simplify weight loss and maintenance, can weaken the system’s resistance in a combat environment. Similar solutions, such as Spanish EM & E products, were unreliable during the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian armored vehicles also develop
Ukraine also invests in more advanced armored vehicles. The Varta 2 model developed by the Ukrainian Armored Vehicles, introduced in 2024 with the domestic “Sich” module containing a 30mm cannon, automatic grenade launcher and coaxial machine gun. However, the ZTM-1 cannon does not support programmable ammunition, so it is only suitable for land fighting.
In terms of protection, Varta has 2 reinforced armor for direct clashes, while the Finnish Sisu GTP only offers protection corresponding to the Stanag 4569 standard 1, focusing agility and light weight.
