Russia built an ammunition factory for Kalashnikov assault rifles in Venezuela, Russian Russian state company Rostec said on Wednesday.
“The company will produce up to 70 million annual cartridges and significantly increase the country’s defense potential, providing Venezuela national production ammunition,” the statement tolds its website.
Rosoboronexport, the state agency responsible for the exports of the Russian Military-Industrial Complex, was in charge of the construction of the factory, where four assembly lines have already been in operation. Two of them are intended for steel core ammunition and the remaining in charge of producing tracing and feast bullets. These are 7.62 mm cartridges for Kalashnikov assault rifles.
The industrial complex also includes other auxiliary structures such as shooting fields and deposits.
“Soon, the beginning of other production facilities will be planned, which will guarantee a complete cycle of ammunition production and assault rifles Kalashnikov for the Venezuelan army, police and other order forces,” Rostec director Oleg Yevtushenko said.
In turn, Rosaboronexport’s executive director Alexander Mikheyev lamented that the project was implemented under pressure from both Russia and Venezuela.
The current construction of an AK-103 assault rifles factory was also reported.
Rostec executive director Sergei Chemezov previously stated that the United States were interfering with the construction of a Kalashnikov assault rifles factory in Venezuela.
