It is scheduled for Wednesday (23), in Türkiye, a new round of negotiations in search of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Seven weeks ago, the two countries held two meetings, but did not come close to a ceasefire. There were, however, agreements for the exchange of prisoners of war. One of Ukraine’s demands to negotiate with Moscow would be the return of children to Russia at the beginning of the war. This made the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Vladmir Putin. The Russians claim to have attached the regions and that the children were safe.
The Russian demands are: recognize the areas attached in the east and southern Ukraine, in addition to the Crimea region, guarantees that Ukrainians will not enter the organization of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO), and Zelensky’s departure from power.
The new meeting between delegations from war countries happens as Russia has increased the aerial offensive, especially using drones and overloading the Ukrainian defense system.
