Russia President Vladimir Putin, who participated remotely in the 17th BRICS Summit Meeting, which began on Sunday (6) in Rio de Janeiro, defended the decalarization, the authority of the bloc and the idea that the liberal globalization model is outdated.
His participation occurred through a video sent by Kremlin. The president was not in person at the meeting due to his arrest warrant against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Ukraine.

The Russian President, one of the most interested in promoting international trade dedolarization, due to Russia’s fiscal isolation imposed by world powers after the invasion of Ukraine, defended the advancement of the use of local currencies among the bloc countries.
“The creation of an independent settlement and deposit system on the BRICS platform, which it seems, will make currency transactions faster, efficient and safe.”
The dictator added that the use of national currencies in trade between the countries that make up BRICS “is constantly growing”.
“In 2024, the participation of our national currency, ruble and currencies of friendly countries in Russia agreements with other Brics countries reached 90%,” he said.
According to the BRICS Finance Ministers Working Group, there was advances in the construction of the payment system in local currencies.
Liberal globalization in fall and the multipolar world being expanded
For Putin, the unipolar world – concentrated in the United States and liberal globalization are falling.
“[O mundo unipolar] It is being replaced by a fairer multipolar world. It seems that the liberal globalization model is becoming obsolete, the center of business activity is moving to developing markets, which is triggering a powerful wave of growth, including BRICS countries, ”he said.
Over the past two years, BRICS has risen from five to 11 permanent members, as well as including ten partner members.
“The authority and influence of this group increases each year, and BRICS is now one of the major key groups and organizations in the world. And our voice is heard loud and clear throughout the international scene,” said the Kremlin head.
The agent also celebrated the expansion of the bloc: “Our association has expanded significantly and includes the main states of Eurasia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America. Together, we have a truly political, scientific, technological and human potential potential.”
The Russian President took the opportunity to thank Lula for his “active work” in the expansion of the block.
“It is important that our Brazilian colleagues have deepened in the initiatives presented during the presidency of Russia last year and proposed to work in its implementation.”
BRICS permanent members include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.
Partner countries also participate: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cuba, Uganda, Malaysia, Nigeria, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
The 11 countries represent 39% of the world economy, 48.5% of the planet’s population and 23% of global trade. In 2024, BRICS countries received 36% of everything that was exported by Brazil, while we bought 34% of these countries from these countries.
