Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said on Thursday in a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, who will not retreat on his goals in Ukraine, despite the American’s calls for the close war in Eastern Europe.
“Russia will not deviate from its goals,” said international policy advisor Yuri Ushakov, at a news conference.
Ushakov pointed out that Putin explained to Trump that Moscow will continue his efforts to eliminate the “original causes” of the conflict with Ukraine, which led to the current confrontation that has lasted three years. The dictator argues that he was “obliged” to declare war in Ukraine to prevent the country’s entry into NATO, the Atlantic Military Alliance.
Trump “raised the issue of a quick ceasefire,” acknowledged the presidential advisor, something he said will not be accepted by the Kremlin head.
During the conversation, which lasted almost an hour and it was the Friday that the two leaders had this year, Putin reported Trump about compliance with humanitarian measures, agreed with Ukraine during the latest negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey, and said Russia is willing to maintain dialogue with the neighboring country.
“Vladimir Putin noted that we continued to seek a political and negotiated solution for the conflict,” the advisor claimed, although he pointed out that he was not specifically addressed a third round of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.
In addition to Ukraine, Trump and Putin discussed relations in the Middle East, such as the situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and the issue of Syria.
“The Russian part highlighted the importance of solving problematic and conflicting issues exclusively by political and diplomatic means,” said Ushakov.
Last month, the Trump administration authorized an attack on three nuclear facilities on Iranian soil, while Moscow avoided being directly involved in the conflict, only diplomatically convicted military operation in the Middle Eastern ally.
According to Kremlin employee Putin and Trump did not address the suspension of the supply of certain American weapons to Ukraine, announced this week by Washington.
The presidential advisor acknowledged that Putin and Trump did not talk this time about a possible face -to -face meeting between them in the future.
