PT calls for immediate suspension of Eduardo Bolsonaro’s mandate

by Marcelo Moreira

The leader of the Labor Party (PT) in the House, Deputy Lindbergh Farias, announced on Wednesday (16) that the party will file an immediate suspension request of the term of licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP). The request will be delivered to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies.

The government sees the deputy as responsible for articulating with US President Donald Trump, the 50% surcharge on Brazilian imported products. Already the PT states that Eduardo has acted against national interests since it started to reside in the United States.

The request for the suspension of mandate happens near the end of the deputy’s license period, which has been removed from office for almost 120 days – a maximum allowed limit. If it does not return on time, it may be framed by unjustified absence, which paves the way for the loss of mandate.

When the order is delivered, it will be up to the Board of Directors to analyze the application. If the request is accepted, the House may open disciplinary proceedings, which may be sent to the Ethics Council.
