Police concludes atopsy of the body of Juliana Marins

by Marcelo Moreira

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police concluded on Wednesday (2), the autopsy of the body of Brazilian Juliana Marins. She died after falling during a trail on Mount Rinjani, Indonesia. The new exam was done at the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) Afrânio Peixoto, in downtown Rio, and a preliminary report should be released within seven days.

The body was released in the morning for the family to be able to hold the funeral and the funeral, marked for Pendotiba, in Niterói, in the metropolitan region of Rio.

The procedure lasted just over two hours. Civil Police experts conducted the necropsy, accompanied by a federal police coroner and a technical assistant appointed by the family. Juliana’s sister, Mariana Marins, was also present.

Family seeks clarification

The family disputes the first autopsy, made by the Indonesian authorities, and states that the delivered report left important gaps. According to the exam in Bali, on Thursday (26), Juliana suffered multiple fractures and internal bleeding after a blunt trauma. The document indicates that it resisted for about 20 minutes after the impact, but does not inform the exact date of the accident or the time of death.

In addition, the death certificate issued by the Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta was also criticized. The document was based on the Indonesian report, but did not present conclusive information.

The Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) requested the Federal Police to open an inquiry to investigate the case in Brazil. According to the entity, there are failures in the investigation by the authorities of the Asian country.

The first exam was done a few hours after the body’s rescue at Monte Rinjani National Park. The report pointed out that Juliana was already dead between 12 and 24 hours before she reached the coroner and discarded the hypotharmic hypothesis.

Arrival in Brazil

Juliana Marins arrived in Brazil on Tuesday (1). The body came on a flight from Emirates to Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo. It was then transferred to a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft to Rio de Janeiro. The landing took place around 7:40 pm, at Galeão Air Base. Juliana’s cousin, who accompanied the young woman’s father to Indonesia, participated in the landing.

Now the family awaits the new report to try to understand what really happened to Juliana.
